Award winning teaching is delivered Queen Mary academics who hold advanced teaching qualifications –most a minimum of a PhD in their subject area
Students are guaranteed progression to their degree programme if they meet the required grades.
For 2020/21 onwards, students will not need to use UCAS to progress from IFY–they will automatically get an offer for their chosen Queen Mary degree.
Integrated programmes are also available –one CAS for foundation and degree.
Students have full access to Queen Mary facilities and services

International Foundation Year
Queen Mary’s IFY is the only pathway to offer progression to programmes across all three Faculties at Queen Mary.
Students develop subject specific knowledge tailored towards their chosen bachelor’s degree.
Students are guaranteed progression onto 168different Bachelor’s programmes –subject to meeting progression requirements.
Students can also apply for other universities –widely respected and accepted qualification.
Integrated foundation programmes are also available (1+3) in Science and Engineering, Business Management, and Economics and Finance.

IFY in Humanities and Social Sciences
There are 7 separate foundation pathways available in Humanities and Social Sciences
Students study up to 4 subject specific modules alongside an independent research project and English language and study skills
All pathways are available with both September and January intakes
Pathways in Business and Management and Economics and Finance are also available as integrated programmes.

IFY in Science and Engineering
There are 7 separate foundation pathways available in Science and Engineering.
Students study up to 4 subject specific modules alongside, English language, Maths and Communication in Science and Technology.
Pathways are available with September intake only.
All pathways are available as integrated programmes.

Academic Requirements:
IFY in S&E: Senior High Year 3:75% overall, at least 75% in required subjects, with Graduation Certificate
Integrated Programmes:Senior High Year 3:80% overall and subject requirement, with Graduation Certificate
IFY in Medicine
The IFY in Medicine (also known as the Clinical Certificate in Foundation Studies or CCFS) prepares students to study Medicine at degree level.
Progression is offered to Queen Mary’s MBBS (Malta) programme, subject to students achieving necessary grades.
Students take 7 modules as follows:

Biology for Future Clinicians
Physics and Integrated Sciences for Future Clinicians

Academic Requirements:
Senior High Year 3: 70% in 5 relevant subjects
In addition to academic and IELTS requirements, students will need to pass an interview (either online or in person)
We no longer require applicants to take the UCAT before enrolling on the Foundation but this is required before progression onto the MBBS
Four-year Integrated Pathways
64 Bachelors programmes available with an integrated foundation year.
All programmes in Science and Engineering (September start date only)
All programmes in Business and Management (September start date only)
All programmes in Economics and Finance (September and January start dates)
Students are given a 4-year CAS to cover both the foundation and Bachelors degree programme.
The course content of the integrated foundation year is identical to the standalone programme.
Applications for the integrated programmes are through UCAS (if students are applying directly) or via the Agents portal (if applying through an agent –SBM and SEF only).
Graduate Diplomas (Pre-masters Programme)
For students who want to change academic direction, need to improve English or don’t meet academic entry requirements for direct entry
Very high progression rate –90% over last 3 academic years
2 Pathways available for 2 intakes –September and January (no pre-sessional for January intake), Humanity and Social Sciences, Finance and Economics -1 quant module required at average
Integrated programmes available -more to be launched soon!
English requirement: IELTS 5.5 (min 5.5 on each skill) or equivalent
9-week pre-sessional requirement: IELTS 5.0 (Writing 5.0, other skills no lower than 4.0)
3-year Diploma holders, UG (equivalent to a ‘pass’ in a UK bachelors degree) –more on next page
One reference from university and a personal statement are required
